The International Talent Forum of Nankai University was inaugurated for the first time on June 24. Based on the platform of “State Key Disciplines” and “State Key Laboratories”, six sub-forums of different disciplines were to be held this year, among which, the “International Youth Chemists Forum”, the sub-forum of the College of Chemistry was the first.
Zhu Liping, Deputy Secretary and Vice Chairman of Party Committee, and Xue Jinwen, Secretary of the Party Committee of Nankai University both addressed the opening ceremony. Yuan Ying, director of the Tianjin Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs and Xue Hui, Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Nankai District also attended the opening ceremony.
Right after the ceremony, the “International Youth Chemists Forum” was held as scheduled. The hotspots of the conference were Computational Chemistry and Energy Chemistry, on which the presentations given by reporters of each sub-forum were based.
Hu Hanshi, reporter of the sub-forum of Inorganic Chemistry, gave her presentation that titled “Theoretical investigations of the chemical bond in f- element compounds”, and Peng Qian, a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, also delivered a 20-minute report on “Computational Studies applied to Develop Phosphoramidite Ligands: From Mechanistic Understanding to Ligand Design”.
Xi Bin, from Inorganic Chemistry, and Wang Yan, from Physical Chemistry, both reported about Energy Chemistry.
Before and during the forum, the College of Chemistry received over 130 applications from more than 100 famous universities or scientific institutions of 16 countries worldwide, including the US, Germany, the UK, France, Japan, and Canada. Among those applicators, 24 young talents in chemistry were invited to attend the forum after the comprehensive assessment of the meeting affairs group.
From the warm reception of the forums, it’s likely that more international forums will be held in the near future.
